Saturday Ride Review March 31

Cold and grey was the forecast and that’s what we got this morning.

That’s not what Isasio got, he stayed in bed.

Me, Donald, Gary, Al, Kathy, Tim and Bo got a little over 40 miles of training fun in 38 degree weather.

That’s not what Isasio got, he stayed in bed.

We got stronger, faster and more fit riding up to Silver Lake and doing the park loop.

That’s not what Isasio got, he stayed in bed.

But we do think Isasio got some new shoes on line, while in bed.

Shoes he can wear riding his lowrider, which we hear is popular with people that like the warmer weather.

Or, he can wear his new shoes when the weather gets hot and he gets out of bed to ride with his more colorful group of friends in Puerto Rico. That’s if he can keep up, since he’s not training in the cold with us.

See you tomorrow, maybe. It might be too cold for me.

Wind Vests and Jerseys

If you are interested in getting a wind vest (much needed this time of year) we still have some from last years stock for $25. That’s an amazing deal if I must say so myself. This is the most versatile piece of clothing you can get. Full zipper front, mesh back, zipper to your jersey pocket in back. Fits like your jersey does.

Limited quantity and limited sizes so tell me what you want and I’ll bring it to the rides. You bring money, I bring vest.

Also have some of last years jerseys if you want more to wear, also $25. Let me know your size.

Saturday Ride 8AM roll

Cross your fingers for a little sunshine. See you at the Lindenhurst Health and Fitness in Gurnee. 40-45 moderate, Silver Lake, WI if the weather looks good.

Sunday Ride 8AM roll

This will be an easy start to the season. 25-30 easy. Like last Sunday.

My new ride for the weekend.

Since I broke a spoke last week I thought I needed a tougher bike, it’s a killer on the downhills. Test rode it today at Uline.

John Valley in Breckenridge

While we bitch about climbing the bump we call Silver Lake Mountain, John Valley is out doing the real thing. Climbing at 10,000 feet on a mile long switchback that rose 1000 feet, John’s happy his rented Trek has a triple up front for his flat lander’s legs.

I’m going to guess the Silver Lake loop won’t be a challenge for John when he gets back.

Ride safe.

Where’s Rick?

If anyone has been wondering where Rick “Van Diesel” has been, he’s out riding the waves in Clearwater, FL. He’ll be back soon pulling our train across the southern half of  Wisconsin soon enough.

Surf’s up Rick!

Sunday Ride Review March 25

What a great morning for a ride.

Me, E, Tim V, Kathy and drum roll please……. Jim Tirabassi arrived at 8am for a pleasant roll up to the State Line and back. With some rotating pace line work the group put in a casual 30 miles, enjoyed the sunshine and the company of friends.

What more could you want on a Sunday ride. Hope you all get in some road time this week, see you next Saturday.

Ride safe. m

Saturday Ride Review March 24

This pretty much sums up the Saturday Ride. Fog. Wet, dense fog from the time we rolled out of the parking lot to the time we finished. We couldn’t see anything except the headlights of oncoming traffic. We did however have some headlights and tail lights of our own in the group. And Al wore his favorite bright green neon jacket shown here in this photo.

The Veloists rolled out on Beck to Grass Lake, west. Then north on Deep Lake to State Line Road, to Trevor to Wilmont, Highway B, then F to Silver Lake park for a loop on the hill. Came home AH and back through to Deep Lake again.

I broke a spoke on my rear wheel and had to switched bikes, luckily we were close to my house. I rejoined the group by riding the route backwards and found them in Silver Lake.

Spring riding has arrived, be careful out there.

Mike

Sunday Ride Review

Another amazing day to get out on your bike. These early warm temps are a gift not to be squandered.

Started on time with six riders for a short roll up Hunt Club to North Avenue (State Line) and back. New members Tim and Jake were sent to the front for some pace making. Smooth and steady, just like we like it.

John Valley couldn’t finish with us, he had to call for the SAG wagon. It looks like his lightweight wheel set couldn’t handle the early punishment John was dishing out. His hub exploded leaving three spokes hanging in the wind. Not rideable. Once John was retired from the group speculation to the real cause of the hub failure turned to conversation around winter weight and one too many slices of pizza. Stressing the lightweight equipment to the max. We may never know the truth.

Early season mega milage junkie Kathy worked on her climbing skills, looking good Kathy.

Hope the weather holds for next weeks rides. See you then. Ride safe.

Saturday Ride Update

The Season Opener

Todays Saturday ride was a great start to the season. With temps in the 70′s and rain threatening from the north west we decided to turn our ride east. Six Veloists rolled up Deep Lake Road and turned east on County V, Q and over to Hunt Club. We jogged over to Dilleys down to Wadsworth west back to Hunt Club. One more loop around and we finished out with a nice 40 mile ride to start the season.
