Ride Review Sunday April 29

Excellent weather for a ride to Kenosha and coffee at the Common Grounds, our favorite spot.

The good conditions brought out John, Tim (T2), E, George, Jim T and new member Stacy. I have to apologize to Stacy here once again because this Sunday ride wasn’t a Sunday ride. She was ready for a nice short recovery ride and we weren’t. Since Saturday was canceled we planned on going longer. So Stacy followed us up to Hunt Club road and went on her own for a good 30 miler. Great work Stacy, we’ll do better for you next Sunday.

With winds from the NNE we worked a rotating pace line north on H to 95th Street east, to 7th Street and on into Kenosha.

Where T2 did his best impersonation of Cesar from the Planet of the Apes.

John and Jim looked puzzled and George spent most of his break time picking glass off his tires.

Meanwhile I was taking this picture of a cool Moto Guzzi bike for Little K, she rides a hog.

A strong wind pushed us home along Spring Grove road where T2 came to life after pretending he was hurting all the way up in the wind. We remember these things Tim, we remember everything. All in all, a perfect day of club riding once again, wish you were with us.

Ride safe.

The Blustery Day

“What a wonderful day for a bike ride” said Pooh.

“Too F*#! windy” said Piglet.

“I agree” said Mike, “hurts my legs.”

“This is too much work” said George.

“I like to suffer, the wind is my friend, pain is good!” said Timbow.

“F*#! You” said Piglet.

So off they went to Twin Lakes on this blustery day.

The end.

Hill Training Ride May 5

Saturday May 5 is Hill Training Ride. Lake Geneva, WI

Many of us are training for events that include lots of hills. As we know there just aren’t that many places to get good hill rides into our training. Which is why we are going to start our ride on Saturday, May 5 up in Lake Geneva, WI at 8am in front of the Caribou Coffee, 833 Main Street, Lake Geneva WI.

Around Lake Geneva

If you haven’t ridden around the Lake you will love these challenging roads. The once around loop is about 22 miles, we will do two loops. Depending on weather conditions and leg conditions we may opt for longer but will decide on the day. We will plan on eating lunch after the ride.

Put this date on your calendar, let’s talk about it and let’s plan our transportation up and back.

Use this post to let everyone know if you are attending or to ask questions so all will see the responses.

Ride Review April 14 &15

Without a doubt we dodged the “bad weather bullet” this weekend. Two rides without getting wet.

Saturday’s ride to Twin Lakes, WI was taken on by nine Veloist riders. With temps in the low 60′s we took the long way around and made sure we hit all the hills on the way to the lake. Anton (Tony, Anthony-pick one) Donald and Tim pounded out some tough pulls on the climbs as the rest of us followed. After a short break at the donut shop we came back east on Highway F to Silver Lake and south to Gurnee.

Kathy (Federico or Little K), Mike (Michael Mark or Old Mike), Donald (The Other Donald) and Tim (the original Timinator) at Twin Lakes

Kathy showed she could hang with the boys with just a little extra effort. She’s looking at good form for her upcoming event in May.

Sunday was a light turnout with me, E and Tim (not Tim, The Timinator but the new Tim, Tim 2, or T2–pick one), we headed south on Almond to Casey and back for a short, stretch your legs, recovery ride. An excellent weekend of riding for early spring.

On a serious note.

I just want to take a moment to remind everyone that when we are out on the road we need to work hard at staying together as we enter intersections. I know when fatigue hits in the later parts of rides we look for short cuts, this is how accidents can happen. Stay together, make loud clear calls at the front and remember there are people behind you depending on you to guide the way. Ride your bike like a car and own the road if you have too.

See you next week, ride safe.

Easter Weekend Ride Review

Saturday couldn’t have been much better than it was for a spring ride. We had 11 riders for a 50 mile ride up to County N by way of newly paved County Q and the always great to ride on County MB. Good rotating pace line work and lots of short single pulls by all made the miles roll by quickly.

With a brief rest stop on the way back at the Forest Preserve on MB, Isasio got to nurse his hangover from the night before. He still thinks he can party till 2AM and ride at 8AM , you’re not that young anymore my friend.

Sunday morning was perfect for a short ride. Unfortunately I found myself alone in the parking lot until George came rolling in. We left together but quickly parted company as he went off looking for the BCLC and VCR rides coming up our way. I struck out for home and some gardening not wanting to put in as many miles as George. Saturday was hard for me.

Hope to see some of our missing faces next Sunday, it’s time to start your training.

Ride safe. m

We may have a chilly start but the sun should be out. Looking to repeat a ride I did on Wednesday up Deep Lake, V, JS, Q, MB to N and back. Lots of chances to roll in a pace line as one.
