Dues

Our members pay an annual dues of $75 in January and sign a waiver that says “Cycling is dangerous….” Our club insurance through USA Cycling makes us do this but then you can ride with us all you want.

What you get

When you join you get a Team Jersey if you’ve ordered one in time. (By February 15). If not you’ll have to wait until the next time we order. We try to order twice a year, once in February and once in June.

We also order Wind Vests and other specific gear if requested but that will be extra.

Our gear is made by Champion-Systems and fit and wear great. Best looking jerseys on the road if we do say so ourselves.

You also get a 15% SAVINGS AT DEERFIELD CYCLERY in Deerfield center. You must have a paid up dues with the club and its good for anything you need in 2012. Just ask Mike about it or visit the store and ask Greg.

I found the Veloist flier at the Lindenhurst H&FC & may be interested in joining. I have a 1995ish Schwinn hybrid bike. I rode trails last year with the longest distance of 20 miles with no issues. I probably averaged 10 mph, so I’m concerned that I wouldn’t average 16 mph on a hybrid on the Sunday morning rides. How well would I fit into the group ride? Some more about me: 56 yrs old male, good health, was a long distance runner (marathons) now switching to riding. Your thoughts about me joining?

    • Hi Al, your fitness may be there but I can promise you the 15+ year old Schwinn won’t get the job done. If you’re serious about taking it to the road, maybe touring or just long day rides you need a properly fitted road bike. It doesn’t mean expensive but if you’re 20 miles from home going down a hill at 30mph, you need to trust your machine. And so does the guy behind you.

I’m almost 54, so age is should not be an issue if you’re fit and learn the proper riding techniques. That’s what the Sunday ride is about. Do you spin at the club? When? I’ll be at the 9:15 am class tomorrow if you’re around introduce yourself, I’d love to learn more about what you’re thinking.

  2. I’ve just recently picked up the bug and put my first couple of hundred miles on the bike last summer as a solo rider. I’m looking to find a group to ride with and learn as much as possible to improve. I’m riding a 1998 Jamis Quest averaging around 14mph for 20-30 miles a trip. I’d be interested in learning more about the club and group rides. Can you send me some more info?

    Thanks,

    Ffanatic

  3. Hey Mike! Looking forward to better weather than last week for tomorrow’s ride…do you have any of the veloist jerseys or wind vests left? I would love to look as cool as you guys!! I also want to join the group officially so I assume I can just bring a check tomorrow. Let me know! Thanks and see you in the am!

  4. Hi. I live in Lindenhurst and have been riding alone for 3 years. I’ve seen your club on the road the last couple weekends and would like to discuss joining your group. I average 18 mph for 50 miles and would really like to ride with others. What’s the process for joining? Thanks. Scott

    • Hi Scott, thanks for asking about the club we’re always looking for good new riders. If all the information on the site works out for you then why don’t you come to one of our rides to see how you like it. If you do, then join us. We’re doing a short recovery ride tomorrow at 8am would be a great way for you and I to meet if you can make it. Me and some of the others will out on an event ride next Saturday but there will be a ride if you can’t make tomorrow. Let me know what you think. Talk soon. Mike
