Doughnuts, scrapes and holes.

The weather was great for riding this weekend and we took full advantage of it both days.

On Saturday we headed north west to Twin Lakes for a 55 mile road ride with sunshine and smooth roads. Me, Al, Isasio and Jim T made the trip with a stop at the bakery in town for coffee and Jim T’s favorite shoulder recovery food. Feed a cold, feed a fever, feed a broken collar bone–it’s all good.

Sunday found me, Isasio and Scott on the local trails working on our CX mounting and dismounting skills. I mastered the dismount with a well timed face plant in the wet grass sending me sliding on to a sidewalk. The elbow doesn’t hurt as much as the big hole in my new jersey does. Time to take out the needle and thread. That’s two small injuries for me on the Cross Bike this week, maybe I’m not so good at this.

Get out and ride this week, we’ll see you next weekend. Ride safe.

Ride Review Saturday Sunday June 2,3

Heading into Twin Lakes, WI

Saturday Ride

Good riding this weekend with beautiful weather both days.

Nine riders took the starting gun on Saturday morning for a push into the wind out to Twin Lakes. A near fall by Michael Mark reminded us we need to be vigilant at all times for pot holes and cracks. We got lazy in our group riding on Deep Lake Road not calling out and taking care of the rider behind you. We can’t let this happen. We were lucky Mike was able to keep control of his bike and avoid a fall.

Scott taking on nutrition in Lake Geneva, eat Scott eat.

The wind kept us working together with some great rotating pace lines. Nine solid riders riding as one at 18mph into the wind made the traveling much easier. I love having friends on the road.

Once at Twin Lakes five Veloists took the wind train home for a solid roundtrip 50 mile ride back to Gurnee. Scott, E, Jim and myself ventured on to Lake Geneva still fighting the headwinds for another 15 miles. We snacked at the Caribou and returned on the Jet Stream pushing us home along County road F at speeds up to 36mph. Now that’s a tail wind.

All total 75 miles on my computer, had a blast with my friends and can’t wait to go again.

Sunday Ride

John Valley and Tim 2, joined me for a little ta, dum, ta, dum ride and chat for an easy 35 miles on a fabulous morning. If you haven’t been riding much these are the rides you need to get in shape. If you have been riding a lot, these are the rides you need to shake out the legs. Please join us when you can.

John Valley is ready for his Ride the Rockies, leaving on Thursday!

Remember next weekend is the BCLC Ramble on Sunday. We are planning on the 100, do what you can and join us. There is a 50 and 75 option. We plan on riding together as far as possible. Wheels on the road at 7am in Wilmot. Inform your home office now, you’ll be gone awhile on Sunday.

Sunday May 27 Ride Report

Hotter than hell, that’s what this turned out to be, hotter than hell. But we rode anyway because that’s what we do.

Seven riders at the start and we picked up George along the way. Got a little help going north from a SE wind under cloudy skies and mild temps. Made it to Kenosha in great time as the temp fell near the lake.

Jim telling a fishing story to Mike and new member Scott.

Coffee at the Common Grounds is always good for a double espresso.

E updates his FB page and shops for new shoes on Ebay.

Kathy ordered a “tall” coffee, to help compensate for her height.

Half the group headed home from there for a 50 miler  as John, E, me and 4’11.75″ Kathy headed north for more. We followed Sheridan Road past Carthage College up to County A, turned west and followed that to N to 45, north to JB to south on B down into Silver Lake for a short pit stop. Next stop was our usual stomping grounds done backwards as we rode west on County F into Twin Lakes, C to Wilmot and home. All totaled for 90 miles.

I got home with John and E’s help my legs where liked cooked linguini.

It was a great day for a ride and we took advantage of the winds and weather best we could which means our Monday ride will be shorter than last posted.

Monday Ride will be 50 miles starting at 7am, sorry if anyone was planning on the longer ride but I don’t think we’ll have the legs for a back to back.

Also representing the Veloist Club in Chicago at the Bike the Drive was my good friend Jerry Lazar.

My friend Jerry at Bike the Drive.

See you at 7am tomorrow for more adventures on the road–Remember we’re going 50 at our normal pace 17. to 18.5 average. Let’s see where the wind is blowing tomorrow.

There are lots of riders on this road if you need any assistance. The extended ride is due to today’s cancellation we won’t normally send you home alone. However do expect the Sunday distances to start going up so get you training rides in during the week.

Ride Review Saturday May 11

I must say it was a pleasure riding up to Lake Geneva by way of Twin Lakes today with Gary, Tim, John and Isasio. Even though it was very difficult for me at times John and Tim’s great pulls into the wind kept us on track for a great ride.

As expected the route was around 75 miles round trip. With NE winds that got stronger as the ride went on we found the hardest work on the way back on Highway F, heading east. All in all a great training ride with some very strong, experienced riding mates. It’s good to have friends on windy days.

These are a few snaps from our stop in Lake Geneva. Tim got beer, E got some wine and John ate a sandwich. I had Gatorade, I’m on a diet.

Ride Reminder 7AM Start

Don’t forget we roll at 7AM on Saturday heading out to Twin Lakes for a 50 mile loop and for those that want out to Lake Geneva for a 75 mile loop. Watch the weather if it’s not so great I’ll post a go or not go early in the morning so you can get back in bed.

Sunday ride is still at 8AM.
