Michael Valenti has been having an ongoing love affair with bikes since, well, since he was old enough to ride them. As the self proclaimed “Velo-Artist” (Veloist) this passion has brought him to all parts of the world chasing the pro cycling peloton in search of inspiration. Over the years he has created hundreds of unique, whimsical styled Cycling Art Posters and original artworks found at veloist.com
Having created his first “Love Bikes” and “Heart Bikes” paintings for many patrons of his artwork, the “Cranky Love Affair” created for the World Bicycle Relief is an extension of his many executions in this style.
The opportunity to create one of the Crank Set Artworks came about after being contacted by World Bicycle Relief UK Managing Director, Ben Sadler. The artworks created by many other talented artists in the past have been auctioned at the Rouleur Live event in London. Having been involved with WBR in the past and all the important good work they do it was an easy “yes” to jump in and create something unique for the auction.
Having never painted on a crank set before a bit of research was involved so painter friend and bike rider Donald was called. He said “prime coat it and paint it, that should work, I think”. And it did. A varnish finish coat and all was good.
“It was an honor to create this work and be a small part of doing good. I hope it does well for them and we can collaborate again in the future.” -m
