A new Cycling Season.

January is always a tough season for us bike riders in the midwest. The weather makes it difficult to get out an ride but there is one good thing about this time of year. Planning the new riding season.

As the founder and supreme leader of the Veloist Cycling Club it falls on my shoulders to suggest what adventures we might possibly take on when the weather turns good again. This year as in years past our calendar is looking full.

Weekly Group Rides

Once the roads are safe to ride as a group the Veloist Cycling Club will be out on Saturday mornings leaving from the Hastings Lake Forest Preserve on Grass Lake Road in Lindenhurst, IL. We will mostly ride north west to Twin Lakes and north east to Kenosha. As the days warm and the legs come back we will extend our weekly rides to Lake Geneva, Burlington and Racine.

With our members doing their own weekday training along with the group rides most of our members will be easily ready to take on the challenge of any century ride events we have planned.

Event Rides

This year it is our plan to participate in at least one charity ride event. We’ve chosen Bike MS Tour de Farms. It’s a two day event that is very well run and for a very worthy cause, to fight MS.

We will also challenge ourselves to the Dairyland Dare and a few members will participate in RAW. As a club with rides close to home on our local training routes Veloist CC will also take part in the Harmon 100 and the BCLC Ramble. All of these events are fun, social style riding much how we handle our weekly rides.

So while I can’t get on my bike that often right now, I can dream and plan, go to the gym and lift and look forward to a great 2016 riding season with my good friends.
