How I make my art.

with No Comments

There is no big mystery to how I create my art. I love what I draw and most of it just seems to fall out of my hand. Well, certainly out of my head. However, there is some process I go through to get my thoughts onto paper.

1. Subject. First you have to have an idea of what you’d like to draw, in this case I need to create a new Tour de France image for my collection.

2. I start with some very, very rough composition drawings. My friend and Veloist riding pal, John Valley says I “doodle” for a living. I answer, somebody has too.

These are very rough “doodles” of an Eiffel Tower composition and a lead rider idea.

3. I refine the drawing as a pen and ink “Under Drawing”. I do this so I can create my work quickly and with fluidity before I transfer over to the digital world.

4. Finally I take my “Under Drawing” and scan it. From here I start to draw on top of this image to create my final “Digital Art”.

5. Ha! Nothing to see here yet. I’m working on this and will showcase it in June prior to the Tour de France. But all of my Cycling Art Prints go through this process.

It’s how I work, it’s how I create what I love. Cycling Art.

Update: see the finished Vive Le Tour cycling poster and original ink drawing, both now available for purchase.
