A series of small paintings.
If the stones could speak, they would speak of passion. Of glory and defeat.
If the stones could speak, they would speak of suffering. Of sacrifice and despair, of divine intervention.

If the stones could speak, they would tell stories every Sunday. On cold spring mornings, in sun and storm, with joy and pain.
If the stones could speak, they would talk of struggle. Of great atrocities, of famine and times of plenty.

If the stones could speak, they would speak the words of the people. The words of love, of loss and the words of forgiveness.
If the stones could speak, they would whisper words of patience. Words of equality, of dreams. And words of compassion.

If the stones could speak.

I love the stones.
As the winter days started to warm up as usual my thoughts turned to the Spring Classics and the cobbles. The one day races are epic challenges of distance, weather and the roads themselves. Cobbles change everything. So as I waited for the races I spent some time thinking about what those famous cobbled roads mean to the people in the area. The history, today and what happens in the future. I hope the cobbles never get paved over, I’m sure you do too. Vive le cobbles!
