Free to roam.
What I most definitely love about cycling is the freedom to explore. The very simple act of going where my bike takes me. New roads, new countries, new friends. Having the ability to just turn on a whim, take a new direction and explore something new.
Thats very much how I like to approach my work. I’m not afraid to take new paths, bust out a new media or try something new without fear. I know it’s the chasing new ideas and ways to express them that keeps me interested in my cycling art. And I hope it does the same for you.
You can’t get lost.
A very long time ago I read a book, I don’t remember the exact title but the idea was this – You can never get lost, because you’re always somewhere. Kinda zen I know but I’ve pretty much always taken that to heart, especially when riding or creating new art work. If you don’t like where you are, turn around and go another way. For me finding new roads has always been a driving force. It’s the old saying, when one door closes, another one opens approach to keep moving forward. Keep learning. Keep fresh.

There are no mistakes.
You might say well this is easy for you to say, you’re self employed and don’t have a boss to answer to. You can do whatever you want. Ahhh, that’s where you’d be wrong. We all answer to someone, or think we do. We all have conditions we live with, people we answer to, including most importantly ourselves. So when I veer off the beaten path and take a chance with a new style of drawing or idea, it may fail. But the bigger failure would be to never try new things. So while my “muse” is cycling, I vary my artistic executions to try and stay interesting and motivated. Some things work better than others but you never know until you know.
Colored pencils and more.
So in the spirit of trying new things I’ve broken into my stash of colored pencils, china markers and watercolors for a new twist on an old favorite. I’ve been scribbling, coloring and wiggling my way across drawing paper and liking the results. And since I think these new scribbles suit me well I’m sure you’ll be seeing more.

Hello 2026. I don’t know what you have planned for the new year but for me the plan is to break out of some old habits and try some things I’ve been thinking about for a while – new year, new start, new adventures.
