I am never disappointed with the Queen of the Classics — Paris-Roubaix always serves up a great day of exciting racing. This was a really great day for two reasons as far as I was concerned.
First and most important this was Tom Boonen’s last professional race. How fitting it was Paris-Roubaix. From where I sit as a fan he has always been a class act, not always easy to do in this competitive world. But still he managed to win and stay connected to his fans. Greatly appreciated Mr. Boonen, I for one will miss you in the press.
Salute.
So of course the second reason Paris-Roubaix was such a great race this year was team BMC and Greg Van Avermaet who is just crushing the spring classics this season!
Team BMC rode a very smart tactical race and it paid off. I hope he gets some rest this week he has more work to do soon. And if he’s not dreaming of cobbles — what’s next?
