Fausto Coppi | Cycling Legend | Cycling Art Print

Champion of Champions.

Fausto Coppi – Il Campionissimo is the first of many drawings I will be creating as a series of Cycling Legend | Cycling Art Prints.

These prints are my tribute to the many cycling heroes I have. Many will be your favorites also. None will need more introduction beyond their name. You already know the rest of the story.

Merckx Legend | Cycling Art Print
Merckx Legend | Cycling Art Print

A cyclist for all times.

Eddy Merckx is the undisputed all-time biggest winning professional bike rider on the planet. He has had competitors but not many. Five times winning the Tour de France. Five times winning the Giro d’Italia. Seven times winning Milan-San Remo, three times conquering the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix and the list goes on to a stunning 525 professional wins.

Nicknamed “The Cannibal” for his insatiable appetite for winning, Eddy Merckx came to the start line to gobble up the competition and only to win.

It took me a while to finalize this image, and if you’re wondering about the “heart” dimple, well thats my little nod to his master frame builder, Ugo De Rosa.

After two weeks of racing around France we all deserve a little R&R. Take a ride around Paris with a friend, uncork a Burgandy. When you live in my fantasy world anything is possible. So go easy on yourself and rest up, you have more cycling ahead of you. Vive le Tour!

This work was created by drawing with pen and ink, then finishing with watercolors. It has been scanned and faithfully reproduced as a print for you to enjoy.

Share the Love Bicycle Poster

Cycling Art Print

This art was originally created to help raise funds for Midwest Bike Share program, a not-for-profit organization bringing an inexpensive bike sharing program to the greater Milwaukee area.

The idea behind the image was inspired by the name, Bike Share. One of Michael’s very first concept sketches for this project turned out to be the winning design. Sometimes the most simple idea is the best one.

The Hell of the North.

The Queen of the Classics. A Monument of Cycling. Paris – Roubaix has been tearing apart bicycles and riders since 1896 and we can’t ever get enough of it. A savage race over the cobbled roads of northeast France the race passes through some of the worlds most war torn, hallowed lands. The famed cobbled roads are lined with raging fans from around the world – the men and women that race Roubaix turn themselves inside out just to finish, let alone prevail. This print, available in various sizes from an original watercolor was created to capture the exhausted cyclist.  — Man, I love this race.

New York City Bicycle Poster

Night Lights

The city that never sleeps is where we find our lone urban cyclist as he makes his way through the shadows of this imaginary NYC landscape. Lights sweep the skies as car head lights sweep the canyons to reveal our bike rider on his fixed gear machine.

Vive le Tour!

The 2017 Tour de France kicks off with a grand depart from Dusseldorf, Germany and I was there! In fact I was at every stage of the Tour de France this year drawing pictures and gathering material for year and years worth of Cycling Art.

This 2017 TdF Cycling Art Print (inspired by Chris Froome) will always have a special place in my home because this was the first year — I went to Paris!

Vuelta Rider in Red | Cycling Art Print

Homage to Spanish painters.

Like a cross between Picasso and Miró my newest Cycling Art Print pays homage to the great, colorful and wildly fun painters of Spain. “Vuelta Rider in Red” is my tip of the cap to these great artists while I still try and hold onto a bit of myself.

Pearson Cycling Art Print | Valenti
Pearson | Cycling Art Print

Pearson Cycling is the oldest bicycle shop in the world. Established in 1860 by Thomas Pearson and is still in the capable hands of the Pearson family. The shop has two locations, the original cycle shop is in Sutton, with a newer shop in Sheen, London.

My approach to this cycling art was a bit different than what I might usually do mostly because it gave me the opportunity to draw a Penny Farthing. I also created a “P” shape on the rider to make a nice connection back to the Pearson logo.
