The start of something big.

Freedom 1900 | The invention of the safety bicycle in the late 1880s revolutionized women’s lives by providing unprecedented personal mobility, transforming practical fashion, and fueling the broader women’s rights movement at the time.

I drew this picture of women being released into the air on their bicycles when I was working on a project for World Bicycle Relief Fund – as I found it thematically similar. Both dealt with issues of self-empowerment and freedom.

At one time, I even considered using the image as a poster for Tour de France – Femmes avec Zwift. I still like it but not for that, I think it’s more emotionally infused than what a Tour poster wants to be. I do however have a series of concept drawings in the same vain but not sure what to do with them yet. If you might have any ideas, please let me know, I’d love to discuss it with you.

La Corsa Rosa

The Italian Grand Tour first organized in 1909 is the first grand tour of the UCI professional season in Europe. Made famous by the likes of Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi when Italian riders dominated for the first forty years of the race. The Italians love their annual race across the mountains and valleys of beautiful Italy. Cheering on the leaders and the man in the “Maglia Rosa” the Pink Jersey of the race leader.

The Saeco Cycling Team, was famous for the most wildly dynamic and entertaining Mario Cipollini, so I’ve just combined him with caffé!

Always at the front of the peloton, in a muscle skin suit or screaming bright colors, Cipo craved the spotlight, so why not as a cup of coffee. My world, my rules.

Madonna del Ghisallo | Valenti | Original Cycling Art

The spiritual home of cycling.

I’ve stood in the shadow of the chapel Madonna del Ghisallo in Italy and cried when they rang the bells as the riders in the 2019 Giro d’Italia raced up the climb. A very, very special painting for me to share. A very, very special place in my heart and the heart of so many.

As with all of my work I’ve taken liberties with the reality of a situation, in this case I’ve endeavored to capture the spirits of the past cycling decades with floating cyclists forever riding the winds. The facade of the chapel doesn’t have the Italian flag, it should. And for me the heart of the chapel is the Bianchi Celeste Green bell in the tower. I hope you enjoy the work.

The trim edge of the painting can be painted white or black as you wish.

2014 Tour de France Poster

Yorkshire to Paris

In 2014 the Tour de France began in the UK with its Grand Départ from Yorkshire, on to London across the Channel and French mainland, and ended in Paris.

On the final day of the Tour, riders raced on the Champs-Élysées and around the magnificent Arc de Triomphe before the final winners were crowned.

This original cycling poster shows the overall winner in the yellow jersey, the King of the Mountains in polka dots, the best sprinter in green, and the best young rider of the Tour in white.

Watercolor Paper Print | Each Giclée print is reproduced on 310g fine art watercolor paper using fade resistant archival inks. There is a white border to allow for framing.

Share the Love Bicycle Poster

This art was originally created to help raise funds for Midwest Bike Share program, a not-for-profit organization bringing an inexpensive bike sharing program to the greater Milwaukee area.

The idea behind the image was inspired by the name, Bike Share. One of Michael’s very first concept sketches for this project turned out to be the winning design. Sometimes the most simple idea is the best one.
