Vuelta a España | Cycling Art Print

The running of the bikes.

Every September UCI Pro Cyclists race around the beautiful country of Spain for three weeks. Inspired by the success of the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia, the Vuelta a España (Tour of Spain) is one of the most challenging stage races on the cycling calendar.

In this image we see the cyclist as matador playing the bull as the roses fall from the sky. The red cape of the matador matches the red jersey of the Vuelta leader.

Giro d’Italia | Cycling Art Print

La Corsa Rosa

The Italian Grand Tour first organized in 1909 is the first grand tour of the UCI professional season in Europe. Made famous by the likes of Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi when Italian riders dominated for the first forty years of the race. The Italians love their annual race across the mountains and valleys of beautiful Italy. Cheering on the leaders and the man in the “Maglia Rosa” the Pink Jersey of the race leader.

Salute!

This year is the 109th edition of the Giro d’Italia, a three-week Grand Tour cycling stage race. For the very first time the race will start in Nessebar, Bulgaria on May 8th and will finish in Rome on the 31st.

With the final stage ending in Rome I had no hesitation and went right to drawing the colosseum. Using the crumbling wall of the structure as a mountain side fit nicely into how I like to put unlikely objects together in my art.

The pink of the Maglia Rosa (the winners pink jersey) jumps nicely off the dark blue sky and the riders glass of pink Prosecco added the final touch. Bellissimo!

One of the oldest races in cycling, Paris Roubaix is the “Queen” of the Classics. It is also affectionately known as “The Hell of the North” and “A Sunday in Hell” for its grueling and challenging route on rough terrain and cobbled pathways. I’ve always been a fan.

My local roads.

With offices in Madison and Milwaukee, the Wisconsin Bike Federation is dedicated to making the state a better place to live by making it a better place to bike. Through state and local programs, WBF reaches out to bicycle riders of all types, including road, MTB, touring, track, families and many more. Their efforts make the roads and bike paths of Wisconsin safer for cyclists of any caliber.

I personally spend most of my time riding the southeast quarter of Wisconsin. Wide open farms, big rolling hills and some challenging climbs are everywhere.

Pearson | Cycling Art Print

Pearson Cycling is the oldest bicycle business in the world. Established in 1860 by Thomas Pearson and is still in the capable hands of the Pearson family. The shop has two locations, the original cycle shop is in Sutton, with a newer shop in Sheen, London.

My approach to this cycling art was a bit different than what I might usually do mostly because it gave me the opportunity to draw a Penny Farthing. I also created a “P” shape on the rider to make a nice connection back to the Pearson logo.
