The sun was out and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky but there was a big bright rainbow screaming across the Wisconsin prairie skyline on Sunday at the Trek CX Cup, Cyclocross event in Waterloo, WI.
UCI Cyclocross World Champion Wout van Aert was flying through the Trek CX Cup this past Sunday under sunny skies and dry conditions. It was like his bike never touched the ground! What a privilege it was to watch this young champion fly the course. So smooth, so fast — he made it look easy and you know it isn’t. I had a very special day in Waterloo, WI on the grounds of the Trek Bicycle Corp.
Wout – is the sound a very fast bike rider makes as they pass you. Just listen closely on your next ride, I hear it all the time.
Along with the UCI Men’s and Women’s elite categories there were also the more human categories like “Old Guys” and “Slow Guys” races. I love these races because I get to heckle the riders. In an encouraging way of course. But really how can you help but encourage a man in a Bee Suit with words of support like – “Bee all that you can Bee!” or a guy wearing multi layers of unmatched clothing including a dress – “Go faster, Cross Casual dresser!” You see, encouragement for all.
