Sunny skies with temperatures in the forty’s had me smiling all the way from the airport to the headquarters of USA Cycling in Colorado Springs.
Just recently I was asked to come in for a meeting to talk about creating images for the 2019 National Championship events. I couldn’t be more excited about the project.
Last year I designed eleven Cycling Art images to be used as Special Edition Prints, T-shirts, marketing materials and merchandise art. But we did the entire job over the phone and internet. This year I traveled to USAC HQ, a much better way to kick off a project when there are multiple people involved.

Before the meeting started I was given a tour of the office, some of the memorabilia and of course the very impressive front entryway. When you come in here there’s no mistake you’ve entered the world of USA Cycling. The walls are covered with enormous photographs of National Champions from over the years. Glass display cases showcase bicycles and jerseys used on the road to glory. It was a very powerful display to say the least.
As a long-standing USA Cycling member I was reminded of the important work they do guiding and governing the professional and amateur cyclist in the United States. I never race, so a license isn’t why I’m a member. For me being a good cyclist comes with a duty to support other riders where I can. By being a member, USA Cycling helps me do that. Plus they have great insurance for the Veloist Cycling Club, we get it every year.
As the project starts to take shape, I’ll be sharing work in progress images with you. I hope you enjoy them. All of the Limited Edition Prints will be available on my website and on the USA Cycling website, along with being available at the events themselves. If you sign up for an event, or even if you don’t, be sure to grab a print or one of the T-shirts on the USA Cycling website.
Supporting USA Cycling helps support all of us.
