For wine. For love. For cycling. Timeless cycling art posters.
When I first started creating images to print and sell on veloist.com the idea was to create cycling travel posters. Posters reminiscent of the wonderful world of travel poster art. I wasn’t looking to copy any time period art, but took inspiration from a wide variety of art images.
This image: Tuscany, was first created in 2012 and is still a favorite for me and many others. When I create any image I’m always looking for ways to make it aesthetically pleasing. Along with an idea. Is there a twist, a pun, a different point of view I can bring to the image. At least this is always the goal. Here in this art, Tuscany, I think I’ve succeed.
Like many images I just find one thing in the work that is a little different, a little off center or unique. This for me, adds enough of a twist to the work that makes it unique. In this work, every thing is very straight forward. The rolling hills of Tuscany. The white stucco villa with tiled roof, even the cyclist is nothing special. But the cypress trees so widely known in Tuscany are shaped like wine bottles. Not a big thing, but enough of a twist to make the image more interesting, more unique. More me.
While I am always looking for ways to infuse more interesting ideas into my work, it may not always happen. I’m happy that it did here and that is what will make this artwork stand the test of time. Ideas are king.
