Working with USA Cycling
Like many of you, I’ve been a member of USA Cycling for years. The Veloist Cycling Club has been too. But now I have a new relationship with them. I’ve been working directly with Cody Hill, Event Marketing, to develop a series of Limited Edition Prints for National Championship Events.
The brief was to create a series of images that worked together, were unique to each event and worked well with USA Cycling branding. The images would be used in marketing for some of the events and as T-shirts and merchandise in all of them. Along with the Limited Edition Prints that are for sale through USA Cycling and also Available Here.
Project Management
If you didn’t know my background has been in marketing and advertising as a creative director/art director for ad agencies and clients directly. That is before I started creating Cycling Art full time. Collaborating with USA Cycling on such a big project could have been a challenge — but it wasn’t. The main reason was because Cody was my only point of contact and was diligent in his role keeping the ball moving forward.
Thanks Cody, for being the monkey in the middle and making my life a little easier.
Our process was direct but in constant flux as I created rough ideas, Cody got them approved while I continued to work on final digital drawings before printing — times eleven images. This process of back and forth started in February, that’s five full months of tag, you’re it. But we’ve gotten it done and I’m very happy with the results just in time for me to go to France and for Cody to get out and sell at events.
Leap of Faith
All of my clients get the same speech about taking a “Leap of Faith”. That is, they have to trust me when I say the scribbled idea you’re looking at is going to look great later when I’m done. Not always an easy conversation but for the most part I was given a free hand with the work and from what I can tell all parties are happy with the outcome.
Thanks USA Cycling for the many leaps of faith you took and thanks Cody, for herding the cats to get the job done.
Let’s do it again next year.
