It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of old cycling posters. Most of the art just blows me away because it’s so good. For example take this poster my friend Rich just brought back from France. Rich is the owner of BicycleGifts.com and sells both original and reproductions of posters.
The creativity allowed by the sponsor or manufacturer of what the posters were selling – back in the day – seems to be much more inventive and creative than many of today’s photos or illustrations.
This image is crazy fun and so simple you have to stop and look at it – and really isn’t that all and ad or poster is designed to do – stop you.
The more work I do in this area of Cycling Art the more I have to push myself to edit the images down to simple, powerful and interesting visuals.
Cycling is fun; the art that represents it should be also. That’s my passion.
